Changes to DLA child claim forms
NDCS have had confirmation that following a successful piloting scheme, DWP are proceeding with the roll out of the new child DLA claim form across the UK. The pilot scheme ran from September 2009 for child claims in the South East of England. The revised child DLA claim form will help to overcome many difficulties parents have previously had with the DLA forms.
The following Information has been circulated by Contact a Family:
1. There will be a roll out of the new form across the country for new claimants. This has already happened in the West Midlands and will happen in all other areas between now and the end of March 2012.
2. For existing claimants (i.e. renewal claims) the new form will apply across the UK from a designated date in February 2012.
3. Plans for a separate claim form for under 2s have been abandoned.
4. New guidance (for decision makers) on medical conditions as they affect disabled children is in the process of being put together. This will replace the information in the DWPs Disability Handbook.
If you need any help completing a DLA form for your child, you can contact us, or NDCS for advice and guidance.

AGM
Our AGM will be held on September 18th 2011 at Alford Ski Centre 11.00am.
Tubing will be on from 10.00am-12.00noon (under 16s must wear helmets - bring your own or the centre will provide).
Please consider coming to the AGM and joining the committee. In order to continue to run events and activities over the coming months we need more active committee members. The commitment is not huge - one Monday evening meeting every 6 weeks or so (in term time only).
We are particularly keen to have youth members to ensure we are meeting the needs of that age group. So if you're over 16, this is your chance to get involved!

NDCS have a 'Getting Ahead' weekend coming up on 10th-12th June 2011 in West Linton. The 'Getting Ahead' programme is for deaf young people. It aims to make a positive contribution to reducing the barriers this group may face and prepare them for the challenges ahead.
The weekend is aimed at deaf teenagers and supporting their transition into adulthood. They will take part in fun activity sessions both indoors and outdoors where they will be able to learn skills that will improve their self-esteem and confidence, improve their communication skills and help them learn about team work and the world they are heading into. There are 12 places on the weekend and it will be led by trainers who are also deaf.
It is open to young deaf people aged 14-16 (17 in some cases). Further details are available from Ailsa Morrison at NDCS on 0141 354 7850 or email us at grampian@ndcsgroup.org.uk and we will forward on information.
